"Arkansas Roots: From Helena and Pine Bluff to the Mosaic Templars and Madam C. J. Walker"

Author and journalist A'Lelia Bundles talks about her Arkansas family ties, including a great-great-grandfather who served in the Arkansas state legislature from Helena, a great-grandfather who was the principal of Pine Bluff's Merrill High School and a grandfather, who worked for the Mosaic Templars and later married Madam Walker's great-granddaughter. She'll also share stories about Walker's role as a hair care pioneer, philanthropist, political activist and patron of the arts who continues to influence today's entrepreneurs.

This free event begins at 6 p.m. on July 27 in the Elders Lecture Hall at the Kendall Science Center on the campus of Philander Smith College (800 W. Daisy L. Gatson Bates Dr., Little Rock). Seating is limited.
