Additional Event Details

Our first community-curated exhibit, "Arkansas Divine 9: An exhibit of Arkansas's African American Greek Letter Organizations" will open on Saturday, Feb. 3.

An opening reception will be 4-7 p.m. Feb. 3 at the museum.

The opening will feature a free screening of the film "Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges & Universities."

"Tell Them We Are Rising" explores the pivotal role historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have played over the course of 150 years in American history, culture, and identity. This film reveals the rich history of HBCUs and the power of higher education to transform lives and advance civil rights and equality in the face of injustice.

Following the film, a panel composed of representatives from Arkansas's HBCUs will discuss the role of HBCUs in the state's history. The panelists are Sericia Cole, Philander Smith College; Dr. Howard Gibson, Arkansas Baptist College; Dr. Jerome Green, Shorter College; and Dr. Lawrence Alexander, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Angela Newkirk will moderate.
