Mosaic Templars Cultural Center celebrated its annual Holiday Open House on Sunday, Dec. 4, which included the 5th annual“Say It Ain’t Say’s” Sweet Potato Pie Contest, featuring an array of traditional and non-traditional sweet potato pie recipes by professional and amateur bakers.
The Sweet Potato Pie Contest is an important annual event at MTCC that not only celebrates Arkansas’s “sweet potato pie king,” Robert “Say” McIntosh, but also honors the African American and southern cultural traditions surrounding sweet potato pie.
The competition was judged by a panel of local celebrity judges that selected first- and second-place winners in both categories. Additionally, the crowd had the opportunity to sample each contestant’s pie and cast a vote for their favorite to win the People’s Choice Award.
The 2016 winners are as follows:
People's Choice:
Latrice Catering
Amateur Classification:
First Place, Tamara Kelley
Second Place, Shanna McCoy
Professional Classification:
First Place, Honey Pies
Second Place, Lily Chanel Sweets
