Mosaic Templars Building Preservation Society

The Society for the Preservation of the Mosaic Templars of America Building, a non-profit group, was established in 1990 and officially organized in 1992. The Society formed to counteract the proposed demolition of the historic Mosaic Templars of America Headquarters Building located at West Ninth and Broadway Streets in downtown Little Rock.

Leading a grass roots campaign to save the Headquarters Building and related community history, the Society rallied the support of public officials and members of the community to save the historic structure. In 1993, the City of Little Rock acquired the Mosaic Templars of America building and agreed to stabilize the structure until a restoration plan was developed. In 2001, the Society worked with the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus to create the Mosaic Templars of America Center for African American Culture and Business Enterprise as a museum of the Department of Arkansas Heritage (now known as the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center).
